Pineapple Incident

10 06 2008

I was watching episodes from the first season of How I Met Your Mother (a great show by the way, I highly recommend that you go check it out in some way shape or form), and I noticed a rather glaring error in the 10th episode, titled The Pineapple Incident.

For those who haven’t seen the episode yet, I will recap quickly. Our hero, Ted, gets drunk one night in an experiment devised by his friends Barney, to see what will happen if he “turns off his brain for the night”. Well one of the things that happens is he falls from a table and sprains his ankle. Now, this is at the start of the night, where Ted’s other friends Lily and Marshall are still at the bar.

The next morning, Ted wakes up and finds that he sprained his ankle the previous night, but can’t remember why. Marshall and Lily tell him what happened and that’s all fine. However, in all subsequent recaps, IE those from Barney, Carl and Trudy (which all happened chronologically AFTER Ted has fallen from the table and sprained his ankle), we see Ted walking fine with no limp whatsoever. This is in defiance of actual physics, as the limp would be more pronounced closer to the time that the injury actually occurred.

But then again, I guess in the end it’s just a TV show, and everybody makes mistakes, but it was a rather glaring continuity error. I say that, but then I think that I have watched that episode probably about 50 times (no kidding!) and I have only noticed it now, so maybe it’s not such a big deal after all.
